The gemstone plays an important role in the field of Indian astrological science. Almost every astrologer does prescribe gems at the time of negative influence of the planets. These gemstones are the boons when every moment of your life moving with extreme difficulties.

Why astrologer recommends gemstones

Although there are hundreds of methods that can prevent the negative impact of the planets, the astrologer recommends gemstones. The gemstones are very expensive which is not affordable by everyone.
Still why astrologer prescribes gems?
The answer is very clear that the other remedial measures are difficult to perform.

Mantra

Rudraksha
The Rudraksha is an integral part of the saints and sages from the time immemorial. The Rudraksha signifies Lord Shiva. The wearer of the Rudraksha gets blessings from Lord Shiva. Nowadays, the Rudraksha is one of the most important remedial measures in astrology.

What should be the weight of the gemstone?
As a rule, the people use the gemstone without knowing the weight of the gemstone. Sometimes, my client says that I got this Yellow Sapphire from a saint which was free. However, it is very important to get the gemstone recommended by a wise astrologer.
There is no hard and fast rule about the weight of the gemstone and it is not recommended by any ancient books.
Usually, the gemstone is used as per the weight of the native. The weight of the gemstone should be at least 5 Carats for an adult. If the person is heavy, 1 Carat is recommended per 10 KG weight.

Rituals and gemstones
It is highly recommended to use gemstone after appropriate rituals. The gemstone will not give relevant result if it is not purified by the rituals. Hence, you should dip the gemstone either in the Ganga’s water or cow milk to sanctify. You should chant the mantra 108 times that is allocated to the particular planet.

Combination of gemstone
Most of the cases it is seen that the people use the irrelevant combination of gems. The use of unmatchable gems can be extremely harmful. So, it is highly recommended to consult an astrologer who is well-versed in the field of gemology.

• Ruby – Blue sapphire, Gomedh and Cat’s eye is not recommended along with Ruby
• Pearl – Diamond, Emerald, Blue Sapphire, Gomedh and Cat’s eye should not be used together with pearl
• Red Coral – Emerald, Blue Sapphire, Diamond, Cat’s eye and Gomedh is strictly prohibited together.
• Emerald – Red Coral, Pearl, and Yellow Sapphire is strictly prohibited
• Yellow Sapphire – Diamond, Gomedh, Blue Sapphire and Gomedh are not prescribed
• Diamond – Ruby, Pearl, Red Coral and Yellow Sapphire is restricted
• Blue Sapphire – Ruby, Red Coral, Pearl and Yellow Sapphire should not be used along with Blue Sapphire
• Gomedh – Ruby, Pearl and Yellow Sapphire is restricted
• Cat’s Eye – Ruby, Pearl, Red Coral and Yellow Sapphire is not recommended

Use of Gemstone and Zodiac sign

There are a lot of discussion on the not only internet but also books all about Gomed and Cat’s eye. It is very easy to prescribe the gemstone for a planet based on the rising sign of a native.

However, the planet Rahu and Ketu is different. We should not apply the same rules for the planets of the Trikonadhipati (lord of trine) in case of selecting Gomed and Cat’s eye.

Though the Rahu and Ketu comes under 9 planets as per Indian Vedic astrology, Rahu and Ketu is considered as the shadowy planet. It has no particular house in the natal chart. The Rahu and Ketu bring results of the planets of the house they occupy.

When to wear Gomed and Cat’s Eye

Now it is clear that you should wear the Gomed and Cat’s eye when the planet Rahu and Ketu is posited in the house of a beneficial planet.

It will bring more beneficial result when you are under the Mahadasha of Rahu and Ketu. The gemstone Gomed should be worn during the major period of Rahu and cat’s eye during the major period of Ketu.

What does the ancient classics say?

Almost all the ancient books on Vedic astrology talk about the effect of the Rahu and Ketu in the birth chart. However, the popular book Briht Jatakam written by Varah Mihir during the medieval India has ignored the importance of this shadowy planets.

The great classic Phala Deepika written by Mantreswar opines that the planet Rahu and Ketu being the first class malefic brings adverse effect almost all the houses in the natal chart except 3^rd, 6^th and 11^th house. The Rahu and Ketu in the 3^rd, 6^th and 11^th house makes one rich, respectable and offers long span of life.

When Ketu is placed in the 3^rd house, it makes one courageous, forceful, strong, renowned and long-lived. The native becomes generous or liberal, determined and gets victory of opponents. When the planet Ketu is posited in the 11^th house, it makes the life luxurious and native becomes successful in all his undertakings.

According to Brihat Parashar Hora translated by Sita Ram Jha opines that the planet Rahu is exalted in the Taurus and Ketu is exalted in the Scorpio. If the both the planets are well positioned in the Kendra or Trikon and if its depositor Venus and Mars is beneficial to the native, wearing Gomed and Cat’s Eye will be quite effective.

According to Laghu Parashari, if the planet Rahu and Ketu is posited in the quadrant with the lord of trine or posited in the trine with the lord of quadrant, it become Yogakarak or extremely beneficial. The famous interpreter and commentator Dewan Ram Chandra of Laghu Parashari is of opinion that one can wear Gomed and Cat’s eye in such a situation.

The Popular book Uttara Kalamrit writing by Kalidas is of opinion, if the planet Rahu and Ketu is posited in the dual sign and it is conjoined with the planet that rules a quadrant or trine, one can be rich, prosperous and powerful.

If the planet Rahu, Ketu and lord of a trine is posited in the 9^th or 10^th house, it will bring happiness, prosperity and popularity. The native is highly recommended to wear Gomed and Cat’s eye if there is Mahadasha and Antardasha of Rahu and Ketu.

Rituals to wear Gomed

One should wear Gomed either in the middle finger or little finger set with Ashta Dhatu the alloy of 8 metals or silver if you Ashtadhatu is not available. The Gomed should be worn before sunset on Wednesday. The weight of this gemstone should be at least 6 Karats. The following mantra should be chanted while performing rituals 108 times. The Hessonite Garnet is used as substitute to Gomed.

Rituals to wear Cat’s Eye

The weight of the Cat’s Eye should not be less than 3 Karats. It should be worn at mid night on Thursday. The auspicious metal is either Ashta Dhatu or silver. The stone should be worn in the little finger. The following Mantra should be chanted 108 times while performing rituals for the gemstone.

The Tiger Eye can be used as substitute to the Cat’s Eye which is a much cheaper stone.
