The Lord Surya is considered as the soul of the universe according to Hindu Mythology. The Lord Surya gives knowledge, divinity and performance. According to Hindu astrology, Sun is the significator of the soul. That is why the Hindu people in India do offer water to sun. The Lord Surya is the lord of all the planets on the heavenly body and the most powerful one. The Sun God gives power, position, authority, glory, name, reputation, force and makes one a ruler or a kingly person. If the planet Sun is posited in a beneficial house in the natal chart, then it will make you an administrator.
As per the science, the Lord Sun is also the major source of power, light and energy. It is impossible to lead a life without the Sun. If the Sun sets for a longer span of time, then the whole world will be glacier and there will be no trace of life on the earth. Similarly, if the lord Surya remains in the sky for 120 hours instead of 12 hours, then the whole world will get extinct.
Our ancient Hindu literature says offering water to Sun God can have a miraculous effect on you.
There are certain ways written in our scripture and Hindu mythology to pray and worship Sun God god.
Some recite Surya Sahasranam, while some read Aditya Hriday Stotram.
Most of the Hindu people know how to offer water to the Sun. There are various places where the people do offer water to the Sun God. Some offer in the river while taking a bath, some others do offer in the pond in the rural geography in India.
Nowadays, people have started integrating bathrooms in their houses. Taking bath in the open river and pond is rarely seen these days.
I would like to tell you as to how to offer water to sun god.
You need to have some easily available products to offer water to the Sun that will have a miraculous effect on your health, wealth, knowledge, power and position etc.
These products are a copper pot, small pieces of jaggery, a pinch of rice and Roli (Puja Sindur) and clean water.
Put all these sacred products in the water available in the pot. Then offer the water to the Sun God by chanting these mantras till the water gets finished.

The best time to offer water to the sun God is between 6 AM to 7 AM. Don’t be too late to offer water to the Sun God. At best you can offer water to this Supreme God till 8 AM.
Rules to follow for offering water to Sun
- Don’t see directly to the Lord Surya while offering water.
- See the rays and Sun in the flow of water that you are creating while reciting the mantra.
- Once you have finished offering the water, pray the Lord to forgive you for the mistakes you have done.
- Pray him to bless you with health, wealth and prosperity.
- Pray him to make your eyesight powerful.
- Pray him to make you glorified like him.

Hi Priyanka, Thanks a lot for your inspiring comment and feedback. You are doing perfect.It is not necessary to see the Sun as the Sun remains invisible during rains and foggy days. You can simply offer water facing eastwards. Luckily, Sun is the only God whom we see. No other Gods are visible.

Hi Jeevan Rekha, chanting any mantra and performing Puja during the period should be completely suspended. However, you can chant it mentally without using your tongue.
It is a very biased statement Mr, it is a natural cycle for any woman to go through her periods, which era do you live in?? It is only natural to have menses for ladies. One does not become impure or inauspicious during the menses. You can recite the mantra during this period too. You seem to be a sexist.

Hi JK Nair, praying God in any means can never be harmful. It is good that you are getting Sunlight through your window. Praying Sun God with folding hand and devotion will surely bring good result. However, offering water to the Lord Sun will be more beneficial. It should be done before 8 AM in the morning.

I offer water to Sun between 6:20 AM – 6:30 AM as I do my Pooja at my home after this which lasts 1 hour and after the Pooja I cannot touch water for sometime. But there is no Sunlight visible during the period when I offer water to the Sun when I offer water. I wanted to confirm if this process is fine or should I offer the water a little later.

Offer water once in the morning despite the mistake. Lord Surya understands the mistake. Hence, no worries and in course of time you will offer water correctly. Simply ignore the mistake at the outset.
I offer water to lord surya in a silver glass,while chanting surya beej mantra for 8 times. Is silver glass ok or it has to be copper pot? Chanting of beej mantra is ok?
