During last couple of years the Vastu Shastra has been gaining momentum due to development of the technology. Especially, the smartsphones, television, FM radio and local newspapers have a significant role for the development Vastu Shastra.

Moreover, the people have developed a great interest towards the science of direction. The educated and cultured people have started studying and researching on this sublime science.

Why Vastu Shastra is Important

Vastu is all about the power of the time and place. In a nutshell, it is very important to buy and build a Vastu oriented home and you should move to that home at an auspicious time.

Here I am going to set an example as to how the time and place can spoil your rich, prosperous, happy and peaceful life. Just read the story of example here.

Example: A tiger is very powerful on the ground. He gets killed by the crocodile in the water. However, the mighty and king of the water crocodile gets killed by the tiger when on the ground. So, it is very simple to understand the power of place.

A crow is very powerful during the day. A single crow can kill hundreds of owls during the day. However, one owl can easily kill hundreds of crows during the night.

Hence, it is clearly understandable about the power of place and time.

Moral of the story – Build the house in the place that is suitable to you. Move or enter the house in an auspicious and suitable time.

The significance of directions in the Vastu Shastra

It is extremely important to have knowledge of direction if you would like to have happy and prosperous living. You should get your design by an experienced architect or designer as per the direction recommended by Vastu Shastra.

I am going to share the knowledge about the directions here. There are 4 directions and 4 corner direction as per Vastu shastra. Every direction has its own significance.

Let’s talk about this.

Significance of North direction

This direction should be down in comparison to other direction.

You should keep more numbers of doors and windows in the north direction.

You need to keep Balcony in this direction.

The veranda, portico, wash basin should be in the north direction.

IMP – Deviation of Vastu rules in the north can have highly negative effect on the finance, mentality, study, education and happiness between husband and wife.

Significance of East direction

The open space in the east direction will have a great impact on you. You will have long span of life if you have open space and door in this area.

You can have door in the eastern part of your house.

You can have portico in the east direction.

The veranda can be built in this direction

The wash basin can be installed in this direction as well.

Significance of South direction

The south direction should be elevated.

There should be no ditch, slope, well, water resources and pool.

The heighted and thick wall in this direction can bring good health, wealth and happiness to the land owner.

You can keep treasury in the south direction so that it faces towards north while opening.

You should not have toilet this side in any circumstances.

Significance of West direction

The south direction should be elevated in comparison to other direction.

You can have toilet in the south.

You can have dining hall in this part of house.

The west walls should be little thick to bring achievement and fame to the inmate of the house.

Significance of North-East corner

The NE corner is one the most auspicious place in the home. Hence, you should pay close attention to this direction.

The more open space should be in the north.

The northeast corner is the best suited for the Puja room.

You can have pool, well and water resources in this direction.

The study room can also be erected in this side.

The main door in the north east corner is considered to be auspicious. This brings mental peace and prosperity.

Significance of South-East corner

The southeast corner is the place for the fire. Hence, anything relating to fire, transformer and oven etc can bring health, happiness and prosperity to the inmate.

You should have kitchen in this direction.

You should keep refrigerator in the southeast direction.

You should keep washing machine in this direction.

You can install transformer in this direction if you have a factory.

You can keep microwave in this direction.

You can have toilet in the southeast direction.

The SE corner should be used for the servant quarter.

Significance of South-West corner

This corner is for the head of the house. Hence, the parents and elderly people should be in this direction.

Never allot this SW room for the servant.

You can keep heavy machines in the SW side of the home.

Never keep open space in this side.

Avoid doors, windows as much as possible.

You can keep cash counter in the southwest.

Significance of North-West corner

You can keep the northwest room for the newlywed couple.

You can have cattle shed in the NW direction.

You can have garage in this side.

You can have servant room in the northwest.

The basic rules of Vastu Shastra that you should follow

There should be more open space in the east. Similarly, you should have also more open space in the north.

The south and west wall should be elevated than the north and east wall. Similarly, the south and west wall should be thicker than north and east wall.

The top floor of the house should be in the south and east direction of the house.

You should have Veranda in either north or east direction. The veranda should be little down or there should be slope. Similarly your rooftop should have little slope in the north and east as compared to south and west.

The roof of the building should in the north and east direction of the building. It should not be in the south or west side of the house.

The height of the boundary should be elevated in the south and west. The north and east wall should be little down in comparison to SW.

The place for car parking, servant home and outhouse should be built in either south-east or north-west corner of the house. The wall of this room should not touch both east and north. The height of the car parking, servant home and outhouse should not be taller than the main building.

The porch, portico and balcony should be developed in the north, east or NE corner of the building.

Ideally, the bed should be placed in the middle of the room or it can be placed in the south-west corner of the bedroom. The bed should remain far from north and east wall. The bed should be closed to the south or west wall.

The more open space should be in the North and East.

The numbers of the windows and doors should not be equal between the ground floor and 1^st floor. The numbers of the doors and windows should not be equal.

The door should not be installed in any corner of the room.

The chair and table in the office should be in the south or west direction in the offices. As a result, the executive who sits in the office should face towards either north or east. Even the same should happen in the study room or library.

You should not put any litter or keep the dustbin in the north east corner of the house. It should be always extremely clean.

The sofa and furniture in the living/drawing room should be in the south-west corner of the room. The owner of the house should face towards north or east while sitting.

The treasury should be kept in the south or east direction. So that it should open towards east or north and we should face toward south or west.

The heavyweights should be in the south, west or SW corner of the house.

The refrigerator or grinder or any other heavy objects should be kept in the south or west wall.

All the mirrors of the house should be installed in the north or east walls of the home. It should never be kept in the SW wall. The wash basin in the toilet should be fixed in the north or east direction.

You should consume food facing towards east or south in the dining hall.

You should keep your head towards south and east while sleeping.

The solar heater should be in the southeast of the house.

The water tank should be in the southwest corner of the house.

The stairs and lift should be in the south or west direction.

The rain water should flow from south to north and west to east. However, all the water should flow towards the northeast corner.

If there are red flowers in the house, it should not be visible to outside.

If you have idol made of stone in the garden or you have some stone decoration, then it should be in the south east direction of the garden.

There should not be face to face doors of two rooms.

The plot should be either rectangular or square. However, the length of the square plot should not be double than the breadth.

The heighted wall or any kind of construction should not be in the northeast corner. It is not Vastu compliant.

The Puja room should be built in the NE corner of the house. The face of the idol or photos should be towards west.

The kitchen should be established in the southeast corner of the home.

The middle of the house should be open as it is Brahmasthan and very important in the Vastu Shastra. You should be able to move freely from one room to another.

You should never build toilet in the NE corner of the house. The toilet in the northeast corner can prevent all kinds’ happiness and prosperity. 

Health and happiness through Vastu

As we know Vastu has got a great effect on the human life, I am going to discuss all about the various rooms in the house. Basically, you are born with fixed fate and fortune. The planets in the horoscope will be 60% effective, while Vastu is 40% effective.

Hence, the Vastu will affect when you have a bad time going on. The perfect Vastu can help you to neutralize the negative effect of the planets. In a nutshell, we can consider the Vastu oriented home as remedial measures.

Now, I am going to discuss about different rooms in the house such as Puja room, kitchen, dining, living room, bed room, and toilet and study room etc. as per Vastu Shastra.

Main doors in the Vastu

It is very important to be happy, healthy and prosperous. To achieve this goal in life, Vastu Shastra should be the part of life. If you want health and happiness, then make your main door as per Vastu Shastra.

The Vastu friendly main door can dispel the negative energy from the home. I am giving few tips here so as to get mental peace, happiness and prosperity.

The main door should be well decorated which will bring glory to the home.

The main door should be bigger than other doors. The height and breadth of the main door should be taller and wider than the other doors inside the house. It is ideal to have 4*8 size of door as per Vastu rules.

Due to the space scarcity in the metro cities, it is not possible to build very big main door. However, you can build door 3*7 by size.

If the main door has been smaller than the inner doors, then you should install such a light nearby main door so that the light should fall on the people who enter the house.

The festoon in the main door is a blessing. If you tie the festoon in the main gate, you will be blessed by the Gods and Goddesses.

The main gate should be constructed in the east or north direction of the compound wall.

The door should open inside. The door that opens outside is harmful. It can gradually make you poor and you are likely to incur a lot of losses.

The doors of the houses should not be down than the ground.

You should not construct the main door in the northwest and southwest of the building.

The door should neither open nor be closed automatically. There should not be any sound while opening and closing the door.

If you have a plan to build one main door in the building, then you should do it in either north or east direction. It will bring prosperity to your life.

If your house is south and west faced, then you should have only one main door. You can fix photo of Lord Ganesh in the outside of the gate.

As per Vastu Shastra, there should be double door in the main gate.

There should be no obstructions in front of main door such as electric poll or trees with nails.

Don’t keep the dustbin in front of main door or nearby area. Similarly, you should also pay close attention on the cleaning the nearby area.

Plant Tulsi plant near the main gate. It will neutralize the Vastu Dosh and dispel the negative energy.

Also a potful of water near the main door can expel many kinds of difficulties.

Never install main door in the lowland or dampen area. It will bring illnesses and difficulties to the inmate of the house.

The doorframe of the main door should be made of wood.

You should not keep anything near or in front of the main gate. It will obstruct the ventilation. Mostly the people keep shoes near the gate.

Important note –

• If the main door is erected in the north, then the inmate of the house will have money, wealth, knowledge and social status.
• If the main door is erected in the east, then the inmate of the home will have achievement, culture, wealth, peace and happiness.
• If the main gate happens in the south, then there will neither wealth nor health.

Vastu for Puja room

God is omnipresent and he is always there to bless us. The directions are also headed by the God. Hence, we should also pay attention while constructing puja room as per Vastu Shastra. I am sharing few important tips that will help you to get health, happiness, prosperity, knowledge, power, position, authority and social standing.

You should keep family deity (Kul Devta) in the home. The photos of family deity should be in either north or east wall.

Don’t install tin or iron door in the pooja room.

Installation of Goddess Durga in the month of Ashvin is considered to be auspicious. You will earn a lot of virtues.

It is not advisable to keep big idol in the puja place. It should not be taller than 18 inches. The house owner gets defamed if there is big idol in the pooja room.

The prayer room should neither be just above the toilet nor just below.

The prayer room should not be in the bedroom.

You should avoid worshiping 3 Ganapati, 2 shivling, 2 conches, 2 idol of Sun God, 3 images of Goddess and 2 Shaligram. You will be suffering from anxieties, fear and depression.

You should paint the Pooja room with white or cream color.

Don’t keep the idols or prayer room in the Southwest. It will bring obstacles to your savings.

The puja room should be built in the Northeast. The floor of the puja room should be downwards towards north and east.

The height of the temple should be double than the breadth.

You should not keep puja place in the bed room. If there is space scarcity, then you can cover the temple by curtains. Keep the temple in the NE corner of the room.

The face of the Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Sun, Kartikeya, Ganesh and Goddess Durga should be towards west direction.

The face of the Lord Hanuman, Kuber and Vairav should be towards south direction.

Don’t install the aggressive God or Goddess at home such as Kali.

You should face towards east while worshiping.

Vastu for kitchen

Kitchen is one the most important places in the house. The clean kitchen and healthy foods keep us active and disease free. Hence, it is extremely necessary to keep the kitchen as per the Vastu Shastra so that you can lead happy and prosperous life.

Never keep 3 rolling boards in the kitchen. It can bring trouble to the home.

Always keep Jaggery in the kitchen. It will bring health and happiness.

Don’t keep very old or broken utensils in the kitchen. This can make your life troublesome.

Don’t light the stone in the dark. It will stop the development of the children.

Don’t keep salt and turmeric together or nearby. It can bring anxieties, fear and other mental problem.

Never cry in the kitchen. It will make you ill.

Face towards east while cooking. Facing towards North will incur more expenses in the foods.

If your kitchen is not situated in the southeast and northwest, then you should at least keep your stove in the southeast of the corner.

The Goddess Annapurna blesses you if your kitchen is clean enough.

The kitchen room should be built in the southeast corner. In case SE is not possible, then you can construct it in the northwest but never in the SW and NE corner.

Dining room in vastu

You should equally pay attention to the dining room as the kitchen.

The color of the dining should be light yellow or light green.

If you are sitting in the group while dining, you should take care of the direction.

The head of the home or the guest should face east while eating. In case the head of the home is not available during dining then the elderly person among the group should face towards east while consuming food.

If you eat east facing, you will have long span of life.

If you eat north facing, you will have both longevity and prosperity.

If you eat west facing, you will be diseased.

If you eat south facing, you will develop devilish character.

Bed room in vastu

Bedroom should be used only for the blissful sleep and romance of the husband and wife. The bedroom must be spic and span, fragrant and well-ventilated.

I am sharing few tips about the bed room that can revive the love and dispel the negative energy from the bedroom.

The master bedroom should always be in the south-west corner of house. It will bring health and happiness.

The bedroom for the newly married couple should be in the northwest. It will improve mutual love.

You should keep your head towards the east while sleeping.

The bed in the guestroom can be west facing.

The wooden bed is considered to be the best, while bed made of metal creates negative energy.

There should not be two mattresses on the bed of the couple. Spread single mattress.

You should not install mirror in the bed. The reflection of the couple can create marital discord.

Similarly you should not have dressing table in front of the bed. If you don’t have option, you can put a cover on the dressing table.

You should not keep any electronic goods in the bed room such as TV, computers and mobile etc. These products create negative energy. Hence, you should keep it distantly.

Never keep unused and broken appliances at home. Dispose the broken TV, unused books and papers, fans and oven that are out of order.

Avoid hanging the photos of war, water fountain and lonely lady. Also avoid aquarium in the bed room.
